ABOUT  COX COMMUNICATIONS

Cox Communications, Inc., formerly Cox Broadcasting Corporation, Dimension Cable Services, and Times-Mirror Cable, is an American provider of telecommunications, home automation, and digital cable television services. It serves approximately 6.5 million customers, including 2.9 million digital cable subscribers, 3.5 million Internet subscribers, and almost 3.2 million digital telephone subscribers, making it the seventh-largest telephone carrier in the nation. It is the third-largest cable television provider in the United States. Cox’s headquarters are located in Sandy Springs, Georgia, in the Atlanta metropolitan area, at 6205 Peachtree Dunwoody Rd. It is a privately held Cox Enterprises subsidiary.

In 1962, Cox Enterprises entered the cable television market by purchasing cable systems in Pennsylvania’s Lewistown, Lock Haven, and Tyrone, followed by systems in California, Oregon, and Washington. Cox Broadcasting Corporation, a subsidiary company unrelated to the Cox Media Group that focuses on radio and television stations, was not established as a public company traded on the New York Stock Exchange until 1964. In 1982, the business changed its name to Cox Communications. In 1985, Cox Enterprises sold it off as a private company.
