Public Storage, an American self-storage company, is based in Glendale, California. It is managed as a real property investment trust. It is the most popular brand of self-storage in the United States. It was the largest of four publicly traded REITs for storage in 2008. There are over 2,200 Public Storage self storage locations across the US, Canada, and Europe. It also owns 42 per cent of an office park subsidiary. This company sells packing materials and offers other services. As a REIT owned by real estate investors, who receive more than 90 percent of the company’s profits as a return-on-investment.
Public Storage Inc. was established in 1972 by Kenneth Volk Jr. and B. Wayne Hughes. Through funding from real estate limited partnerships (RELPs), it grew to 1,000 locations in 1989. In 1995, Storage Equities and Public Storage merged to form a publicly traded REIT. The private company was restructured. It acquired Shurgard Storage Centers for $5.5 billion in 2006. Shurgard was spun out into a separate publicly traded entity with Public Storage conserving 36.6%.
Public Storage Payment Options
It is simple and fast to pay your Public Storage bill. You have many options for paying your storage unit bill. You can also pay online at your convenience, or set up automatic payments so you never miss a payment.
Online Payment
To pay your Public Storage bill online you must create an online account. You already have a username & password to access your account if you rented or reserved your space online.
After you log in to My Account, click the “Make A Payment” button. These instructions will help you make your payment.
- Payment via credit card – You will see a confirmation of payment on the screen after your credit card payment has been processed. If you receive an error message, you have the option to correct it so your payment goes through.
- Payment by bank card – You will not be able to confirm that funds are available and that your account number has been validated by your bank. You will be notified by email and letter if the bank fails to confirm that your payment has been processed.
Pay by phone
Call 1-866-444-44747 to pay your Public Storage bill over the phone. Enter the number that we have on file for you account when prompted. A processing fee may be required for this type of payment, as it requires additional staffing and systems.
Pay-by-phone numbers will not work if you’re outside the United States. You can still mail your payment or make an online payment.
Pay in the App
You can choose mobile bill pay if you own a smartphone and make your monthly storage payments with the Public Storage app. This app can be downloaded from either the Android or Apple stores. You can also use your smartphone to open doors and gates, allowing you to access your storage space seamlessly.
Pay by Post
Your payment can be mailed (check, money order) to your Public Storage. To ensure that your money is credited to your account, please include your Public Storage account # on your check. To ensure that your payment arrives on time, mail your payment at the latest one week before the rent due date.
Pay in-Person
Paying in person is a great way to pay your rent. You can pay your rent at any Public Storage location by using our self-service kiosk. Our friendly staff and location managers will help you complete your monthly payment if you prefer to speak with someone.
