ABOUT BANK OF AMERICA
The Bank of America Corporation, also known as BofA or BoA, is an American multinational investment bank and financial services holding company with its headquarters in Charlotte, North Carolina, at the Bank of America Corporate Center. San Francisco was where the bank was founded. It is the second-largest bank in the world by market capitalization and the second-largest banking institution in the United States, following JPMorgan Chase. One of the Big Four banks in the United States is Bank of America. It competes directly with JPMorgan Chase, Citigroup, and Wells Fargo, which serve approximately 10.73% of all American bank deposits. Investment banking, wealth management, and commercial banking are its primary financial services.
With the establishment of Bank of America, Los Angeles in 1923, the brand name Bank of America made its debut. It was bought by Bank of Italy of San Francisco in 1928, and two years later, it became Bank of America.
The founding of Massachusetts Bank, the first federally chartered joint-stock owned bank in the United States and only the second bank to receive a charter in the United States, can be traced back to 1784, when the eastern portion of the Bank of America franchise was established. FleetBoston was the name of this bank when Bank of America merged with it in 2004. Charlotte’s Commercial National Bank was established in 1874. American Commercial Bank was created in 1958 when that bank merged with American Trust Company. When it merged with Security National Bank of Greensboro two years later, it became North Carolina National Bank. NationsBank was formed when it merged with C&S/Sovran Corporation of Atlanta and Norfolk in 1991.
