The American Family Life Insurance Company of Columbus was established in 1955 in Columbus, Georgia, by brothers John, Paul, who passed away in 2014, and William Amos. American Family Life Assurance Company of Columbus was established in 1964. Although the underwriting subsidiary’s official name is American Family Life Assurance Company of Columbus, the company adopted the Aflac acronym in 1990. In June 2015, Aflac announced the appointment of Frederick J. Crawford as Chief Financial Officer and Executive Vice President.
