ABOUT AVIS
The Parsippany, New Jersey-based Avis Car Rental is an American rental car company. The Avis Budget Group includes Zipcar, Budget Rent a Car, Budget Truck Rental, and Avis.
The Avis brand is owned and operated by Avis Budget Group in South Africa, North America, India, Australia, and New Zealand. Avis announced in 2011 that it was acquiring Avis Europe plc, a separate company that licensed the Avis brand.
Warren Avis (August 4, 1915 – April 24, 2007) established the business in 1946 at Willow Run Airport in Ypsilanti, Michigan, with three automobiles. Over the next few years, it opened branches all over the United States, eventually becoming the second-largest car rental company in the country in 1953. It had opened its first international offices in Europe, Canada, and Mexico by its tenth anniversary in 1956.
