JPMorgan Chase Bank N.A. is an American bank that does business as Chase Bank. It is headquartered in New York City and serves as the commercial and consumer banking subsidiary of JPMorgan Chase, a U.S. multinational financial services and banking holding company. The bank was previously known as Chase Manhattan Bank, until its merger with J.P. Morgan & Co. 2000. Chase Manhattan Bank was created in 1955 by the merger between the Chase National Bank (in the USA) and the Manhattan Company (in the UK). In 2004, the bank merged with Bank One Corporation and acquired most of Washington Mutual’s assets and deposits.

The Bank of The Manhattan Company (New York), was established on September 1, 1799. It continued to operate under this name until 1955 when it was merged with Chase National Bank. Chase National Bank was founded in 1877. The merged bank was known as The Chase Manhattan Bank.
