ABOUT FRONTIER AIRLINES

Frederick W. “Rick” Brown, a United Airlines pilot, his wife Janice Brown, and Bob Schulman, who had worked at the original Frontier Airlines from 1950 to 1986, founded Frontier Airlines. When Continental Airlines began reducing the number of flights it operated from Denver’s Stapleton International Airport in 1993, the three of them suggested establishing AeroDenver Travel Services as a charter airline to meet the demand for international flights, possibly in conjunction with Condor Airlines.

They appointed Sam Addoms as executive vice president and treasurer (later CEO) and M.C. “Hank” Lund as CEO to lead the business. Addoms was the former CEO of the original Frontier Airlines. The proposed airline changed its name to Frontier Airlines in order to fill regional routes as the scope of Continental’s Denver drawback grew toward the end of 1993. Incorporated in February, the business went public in May 1994.
