ABOUT LYFT
Computer programmers Logan Green and John Zimmer founded Lyft in the summer of 2012 as a service of Zimride, a long-distance, intercity carpooling company specializing in college transportation. In 2007, Green needed an easier way to share rides from the University of California, Santa Barbara campus to his girlfriend in Los Angeles.
The company changed its name from Zimride to Lyft in May 2013. Lyft sold the initial Zimride service to Enterprise Holdings, the parent company of Enterprise Rent-A-Car, later that year to enable Enterprise Holdings to concentrate solely on Lyft’s expansion.
