ABOUT TD BANK

It replaces the Portland Savings Bank, which merged with a number of other New England banks to become Banknorth. After that, in 2004, the Canada-based TD Bank Group acquired majority ownership and changed the name to “TD Banknorth, N.A.” by incorporating the well-known “TD” initials of the Canadian bank. TD Bank, N.A. is the American subsidiary of TD Bank Group, which acquired Commerce Bank on May 31, 2008, and merged it with TD Banknorth to form TD Bank, N.A.

TD Bank, N.A. purchased the 172 South Financial Group locations in the Carolinas and Florida in 2010. For approximately $191 million, South Financial was the parent company of Carolina First, which had branches in North and South Carolina, and Mercantile Bank, which had branches in Florida. The TD Bank brand was adopted for the branches of South Financial.
