An online marketplace for vacation rentals is run by Vrbo. Vacation Rentals by Owner, or VRBO, was its initial name. It is owned by Expedia Group and has its headquarters in Austin, Texas.
David Clouse, a retired educator, set up the VRBO website in 1995 in Aurora, Colorado, with the intention of renting his condo at Breckenridge Ski Resort. Homeowners who wanted to advertise their properties for short-term rentals soon started using the website. Vrbo had more than 65,000 rental listings by 2006, and it was adding 100 listings per day.
At first, homeowners could list their homes on Vrbo by paying an annual fee through the company’s subscription model. Vrbo was acquired by HomeAway in 2006 HomeAway, including Vrbo, was acquired by Expedia Group at the end of 2015.
