Target’s Return policy

Target will refund or exchange most unopened merchandise if returned in new condition within 90 days. Once the order has been invoiced, the return window begins for Target.com items. When any part of an order is shipped, delivered to a Shipt shopper, or made available for pick-up, it is called invoicing. Target sells some items with a modified return policy. This policy is noted on the item description, packing slip, Target.com, Target.com, and Target.com. Refunds or exchanges may not be granted for items that have been opened, damaged, or without a receipt.

Target Plus(tm), Partner’s Return Policy

Target plus Partners will refund most unopened items if they are returned within 90 days. Once the order has been invoiced, the return window for Target.com items begin. Target must receive all items purchased by Partners in return, either in-store or via mail. Target.com has a modified return policy for some items that Target Plus Partners sell. Refunds may not be granted for items that have been opened or damaged. Refunds will not be granted for in-store returns that aren’t accompanied by a receipt. Return in store: 

These items can’t be returned without the receipts of one of these types:

  • Valid receipt
  • A return barcodes
    • Once the order has been shipped, delivered by Shipt shopper, or picked up, the return barcode must be available.
    • To find the return barcode, follow Start an online return instruction.
  • The debit or credit card that was used to pay for the purchase of the item.
    • A receipt search can be done by the store.

Start a return online:

You can start a return online by visiting Target.com. In the Target app, you can find the return code for in-store returns or begin processing your return.

  1. Get access to your Target account.
  2. To view your orders, click the toggle at top of page.
  3. You can locate your item under Orders on Target.com, or under Purchases on the Target app.
  4. Select either:
    • The Return option is a return to store or mail option.
    • Get help for missing or damaged items
  5. Follow the prompts to submit your request for a refund or replacement, or to view your return barcode to make in-store returns.
    • Replacing They are subject to availability. There are no additional fees.
      • Your replacement will be cancelled if you cancel an order for a replacement online and return the item to the store.
    • Refunds In most cases, the original payment method is used to issue the invoice.
      • Target Gift Card purchases will be credited as a Target e-Gift Card.
      • All items purchased with PayPal before September 13, 2022, will be refunded to Target Gift Card.
      • Instructions will be given to you on how to use your item.
    • Return items must be returned by mail We will send you a return label and instructions via email as well as on the order details page.
      • Include the original product, packaging, and all accessories.
        • Your refund may be issued before we receive the item. If the item is not eligible according to our return policy, we can charge your card for any refund we have already issued.
        • Target does not keep ineligible or unexpected items (used, damaged etc.). Send us your items. We’ll recycle or donate them if possible. Contact us at 1-800-591-3869. Unfortunately, we cannot guarantee that we will be able find your item and return it. Target cannot compensate you for items that are returned uninvited or not eligible.
      • Attach the return label to outside of package
      • Drop off your package at an authorized UPS store. Visit http://ups.com/dropoff to find a location.

Returning in-store: To have a member of the Guest Services team start your return, please bring the return barcode with you.

How can I cancel an item in my Target order

You have the option to cancel your order depending on the status.

Target app

  1. To view the details of your order, select the order you made in the mobile app.
  2. Select Cancel Items. The option to cancel an item will only be available for items yet to ship.
  3. Choose the item you want to cancel and then choose a reason for cancellation. These details will help us improve your online shopping experience.
  4. Select Cancel

Target.com

  1. To view the details of your order, log in to Target to access it.
  2. Select Cancellation from the list of items.
  • You can request cancellation only for items still being processed for shipping.

After requesting cancellation
An email will confirm the cancellation. Although you won’t be charged for the item that was canceled, your card might have a temporary authorization hold. Once your bank releases the hold, funds will be available.

You can still refuse delivery of an order even if the cancellation deadline has expired. We will process your return once we have received your refuse order and send you an email confirmation about your refund. You can also send your order back to Target by using a prepaid Target.com label.

Can I cancel my Drive Up or Order Pickup Order

Target.com allows you to cancel your Drive Up or Pickup order by selecting Orders, or in the App by selecting Buys under the Account/Name tab. You can also call Target.com Guest Services at 800-591-3869 to request cancellation.
Order Pickup and Drive-Up orders are kept for three days. We will cancel your order and refund your original payment if your order does not arrive within the three-day deadline. Your order that contains fresh grocery items will be held up until the close of business on the next day. If this happens, your order can be canceled and refunded. An order that does not contain fresh groceries may have its pickup window extended for an additional three days by visiting your Order Details page. This must be done before your first pickup window ends. You can’t extend orders with fresh groceries.

Some stores offer fresh grocery pickup for selected items, such as milk, cheese and a variety frozen food.

Best way to get Refund

Method of payment

  • Most cases, your refund will be returned to the original payment method used for the purchase. Your refund could be returned to multiple payment methods if you used them all.
  • You may be eligible for a merchandise refund card if you return something in a shop but don’t have your original receipt or return code.
  • In most cases, refunds will be issued to the original method of payment.
    • Target Gift Card purchases will be credited as a Target e Gift Card.
    • All items purchased with PayPal before September 13, 2022, will be refunded to Target Gift Card.
  • For information on how to get a refund if you have lost your debit or credit card, please contact the card issuer.

Timing

  • Refunds to Target Red Cards can take up to two days once we approve the refund.
  • Refunds to third-party credit cards can take up to five days once we have approved the refund. Contact your card issuer for more information on refunds for third-party credit cards.
  • We must inspect and process all returns before we accept them. It takes on average 7-10 business days for us to approve your refund once we receive your return from the Online Return Center.
