Cancel an Order

Can I cancel my order? Cancel an order or make modifications to it.

To view your order details, tap on the order number. Next, look for the Cancel button beside the item that you wish to cancel.

Cancellations are possible as long as the shipping process has not begun. This usually happens within 30 minutes after you place your order. You can find more information below.

Don’t panic if it is too late to cancel your item. Click on the Return Options button beside the item. Find out more about returns or exchanges.

Cancelling an Order

The delivery method determines the time frame for cancellation.

Delivery and Pickup Method Cancellation Timeframe
Shipping Cancel your order within 30 minutes of placing it. You may not be able to cancel your order for same-day delivery because the order is shipped as quickly as possible.
Shop Pickup You can cancel at any time. Your items will be held at the store for five days. We’ll hold your items at the store for 5 days.
Deliveries to your Home on a Schedule For cancellations of delivery or installation, call 1-888-BESTBUY (1-888-237-8289) at least one day before your appointment.
Backorder You can cancel anytime while the product is backordered.
Pre-Order

A) Pre-orders placed within 5 days of the release date

A) Cancel anytime while the product is on pre-order. This applies to all shipping methods.
B) Pre-orders must be placed no later than five days before the release date. B) Cancellation within five days of the release date is dependent on the shipping method selected:
  • Standard Shipping
  • Express Shipping
  • Express Shipping
  • The cancellation deadline has passed. You have two options: return the item to the nearest store or send it back by mail.
  • Cancel within 2 days of street date.
  • Cancel within 1 day of street date.

Promos and Cancelled Order

Cancelling an item will result in your order being excluded from a promotion or quantity discount. Your order total may be recalculated, and you could be charged credit card fees.

If an item in your order is cancelled by us for any reason, but you have not received your promotional or discounted product, the promotion/discount will still be valid.

Credit Card Authorization

We authorize your credit card when you place an order online. This is to ensure that sufficient credit is available. Until your order is fulfilled, a hold is placed on funds up to the total of your order.

The financial institution that issued the card will determine the time it takes to cancel an order. For more information, you can contact your financial institution.

Cancelling Cell Phones with Service Plan

  • When you cancel your order for a phone that comes with a service plan, please tell us whether you wish to cancel the service.
  • maybe You charged for wireless service if you don’t tell us.
  • You are responsible for cancelling service with the carrier if you cancel your order for a mobile phone or service plan online.
  • You can contact the wireless carrier directly if you have any questions regarding your deposit.

Authorization Process

When you place an order, an authorization hold will be placed against your debit or credit card. The authorization is placed at the time of purchase. After a few days, it is removed. Best Buy will then authorize the amount again 5 days before the release date. After your order has been shipped, delivered, or picked up in the store, your account will not be charged.

We’ll email you immediately if there is a problem authorizing credit or debit cards. For any emails that end up in your spam folder, keep an eye out. We’ll cancel your order if you don’t act within 24 hours.

Canceled Orders and Gift Cards

Within 30 minutes of cancelling an order paid for using a gift certificate, the amount purchased will be credited to the gift card. Call us to request a replacement gift card if you don’t have one.

Special Orders

Special order items can be cancelled or returned. If special order items are returned unopened and in good condition, an 15% restocking fee will be charged. Find out more about Returns & Exchanges.

Custom Orders

You cannot return personalized or custom orders that you have made especially for your needs. Items that a customer requests specific attributes (e.g., Finish, color, and size are all options available to customers.

Return/Exchange Order

General return and exchange policies

Best Buy sells most products that can be exchanged or returned within 30 days of the date you made your purchase in-store or 30 days after the delivery date for online orders. This policy does not apply to wireless and cellular devices. Non-returnable items are also exempted.

All products should be returned in their original packaging. Please refer to the complete policy.

Return an Order

  • Log in to your bestbuy.com account.
  • Navigate to the section.
  • Look for the “return” option.
  • Accept these terms and conditions.
  • You will then get a confirmation email along with the shipping label.
  • Stick the shipping tag to your product.
  • You can use any postal service to send your item.

Note: After Best Buy receives your returned product, you will be able to accept or deny your request. This may take between 15 and 20 business days. Best Buy will also refund shipping costs.

You will need the following information to process a return/exchange:

  • You will need the original receipt (invoice), from your purchase.
  • You can use the original payment method. All payments made by credit card will be refunded back to the original card. For returns of gift receipts, store credit will be granted.
  • Original packaging and all original items included by the manufacturer (or Best Buy)
  • Your name, address and phone number. To confirm these details, a valid government-issued photo ID might be required.

Items that are not returnable

These products can’t be returned.

  • Major appliances that can be opened box, floor models and/or made by the Miele brand.
  • Delivery, installation, and service fees
  • Pre-paid and gift cards
  • Digital downloads (such digital software and games)
  • Books, magazines, as well as copyright materials
  • Vitamins, food, and supplements
  • Earrings
  • Products for intimate use
  • Personal protective equipment (PPE)
  • Seasonal holiday products
  • Shopping bags

Requirements for product condition

 Most items can be exchanged or returned even if the packaging or box has been opened. Non-returnable items are not allowed, and some items must remain unopened.

The product must not have been opened if it is in a sealed container. The following conditions are applicable to the following items.

  • Furniture must be completely unassembled. This applies to indoor and outdoor furniture, as well as nursery and baby furniture and all other furniture.
  • Fashion apparel, bedding, maternity and baby clothes, shoes and accessories must all be in their original packaging.
  • All security settings must be disabled on all cell phones, smartphones, wireless devices and computers (laptops and desktops), tablets, iPads and e-Readers. You can find more information in the “Disabling security setting on certain devices” section.

Certain items that have been opened are subject to a restocking fee.

Returning unopened items or most items that have been opened are exempt from restocking fees. The following items will be subject to a 15% restocking fee if they are returned in their original packaging.

  • Camcorders and action cameras
  • Mirrorless and DSLR cameras
  • Camera drones
  • Flashes and camera lenses

Only items that have not been opened are eligible for exchange or return.

 These products cannot be returned or exchanged if they are still in their original packaging.

  • Major issues
    • Except for Open Box, floor models and major Miele appliances, which are non-returnable.
  • Products for baby, nursery and maternity
    • Except for baby monitors, highchairs, and gates, which cannot be returned if they are opened.
  • Beauty, grooming and personal care products.
    • Except for hair dryers, hair straighteners and curling irons which can be returned if they are opened.
  • Exercise equipment
  • Upgrades and components for computers
  • Software, blank media (e.g., blank CDs), as well as entertainment media (including videos, music and movies)
  • Consumables for office supplies (ink, toner etc.
  • Paper supplies (paper, writing tools, etc.
  • Headphones and virtual reality headsets
  • Microphones
  • Equipment for DJs and Karaoke, consumables for musical instruments (e.g., guitar strings, etc.), and wind instruments (e.g., harmonicas).
  • Drink dispensers and soda machines that use compressed gas.
  • Photo film
  • Batteries
  • Chemicals and cleaning supplies
  • Swimming Pools

You can shop early and have peace of mind. Best Buy makes it easy to exchange and return your gift, no matter if you are buying for someone else or yourself.

We will gladly exchange or refund any item that is returnable under our standard return policy if it was purchased between October 21st and December 31st, 2022.

Please Note:

  • We will not accept returns or exchanges in-store on December 26th, 2022 (or December 27 for Sault Ste. Marie (ON), Quebec and the Atlantic provinces.
  • Any item returned with a gift receipt will be refunded along with a store credit.
  • All Best Buy Marketplace and Best Buy Marketplace products are eligible for the extended holiday return policy. Marketplace products cannot be returned to Best Buy stores. They must be returned by mail to the Marketplace seller.
  • Many items can be exchanged or returned even if the packaging or box has been opened. Non-returnable items are exempted from this rule. The product must not have been opened and be in a like-new condition. For more information and exceptions, please refer to our product conditions.
  • Exclusions The extended holiday return policy doesn’t apply to cellular/wireless device, devices and services that were purchased through Best Buy Monthly Subscription. It also does not apply for gift cards, digital downloads and books.
