Cancellation and Refund Policy

Lufthansa offers cancellation rights up to 24 hours prior to departure in case your travel plans change. There will be no cancellation fees if you have a non-refundable ticket. If you have a nonrefundable ticket, cancellations are not allowed.

However, there are some circumstances where non-refundable tickets can be refunded in full. Below are the circumstances in which they can do so.

  1. Cancellations within 24 hours of booking are accepted for flights departing within 7 calendar days or less. All fares will be refunded.
  2. Lufthansa cancels flights and they are fully refundable.
  3. If the flight is delayed more than 2 hours because of an irregularity that occurred more than one day before departure, you can get a full refund.
  4. If an error occurs on the day of departure, it can take up to 5 hours.
  5. Refundable tickets are eligible for a full refund.
  6. Refunds for boarding denials on confirmed reservations are possible.
  7. A passenger may be entitled to a full refund if he or she cancels a flight due to exceptional circumstances, such as death, serious illness, or other special circumstances. Documentation and Lufthansa’s consent are required.

Lufthansa’s 24-hour cancellation policy allows you to cancel your flight, and get a full refund, if:

  1. Cancel within 24 hours of your purchase and departure date for your flight is not less than 7 days.
  2. Lufthansa’s 24-hour cancellation policy applies to all ticket types, even non-refundable ones.
  3. You must fulfill the following conditions to be eligible for a refund: cancel your flight within 24 hours of booking and depart at least seven days before departure.

You will not be eligible to receive a full refund if you don’t meet these requirements.

I want to cancel my trip and receive a refund for my ticket?

You can request a refund according to the fare conditions. There are restrictions on the refundability of fare purchases. The refund value, taxes, and fees of the fare will depend on how the fare conditions are applied and the segments used. This information will be calculated and refunded back to the original payment method. Find out if your ticket is refundable and under what conditions in your booking confirmation email, under the “Fare conditions” section.

You can cancel your trip under My Bookings until 24 hours before departure:

  1. To access your booking summary login page, click My Bookings.
  2. Log in by entering your surname, booking code and password. You will see the cancellation button in your booking summary.
  3. To cancel your booking, click on the “Cancellation” button beside it.
  4. You will be notified by email that your flight booking has been cancelled. The refund will be processed automatically if you purchased your ticket online at Lufthansa.com/at a Lufthansa Office. We recommend you contact a travel agency for tickets purchased online. We will contact you again if we do not respond to your request in a timely fashion or if it appears necessary for any other reason.

If you are holding a ticket on a cancelled flight by Lufthansa and have not submitted it for a refund yet, you can either submit it here or at your travel agency.

Refunds

You can cancel your flight and request a refund in “My Bookings” under “Flight details”.

You can request a refund if you are unable or unwilling to do so. Your request will be handled manually by our service centers.

You will receive a refund using the same payment method as you used.

Refunds Terms and Conditions

Only the following conditions are eligible for a complete refund:

  • Without a replacement, your flight was cancelled.
  • Your departure time from your airport was delayed at least two hours or brought forward by more than an hour.
  • Your destination’s scheduled arrival time is delayed at most by two hours.
  • In the event of flight interruptions, the actual departure time was modified by five hours on the current or next day.

Tickets that have been partially used will be refunded proportionally.

Other circumstances, such as travel restrictions or voluntary cancellations, may result in a refund subject to certain conditions. This was something we advised you to do when booking. Only taxes and fees are refundable for non-refundable fares.

How can I get a complete refund on Lufthansa tickets?

How to get your complete refund on Lufthansa flights:

  • Visit the official website for Lufthansa Airlines.
  • Click on “My Bookings”.
  • All you need to do is enter your login details.
  • You’ll find the option to cancel your booking in your booking summary.
  • When asked, click the cancel button and confirm it.
  • After you cancel the flight, you will be sent an email confirmation confirming the cancellation.
  • If you booked through the official website Lufthansa, the refund will be made automatically.

If you purchased your ticket through a third-party, please contact them for a refund.
