Astound Broadband, an American telecommunication holding firm, is based in Princeton (New Jersey). The $2.36 billion acquisition of Wave Broadband, Kirkland-based by private equity firm TPG Capital resulted in its formation on January 24, 2018. TPG combined Wave and its existing combination of Princeton’s RCN Corporation and San Marcos’-based Grande Communications. Grande was purchased by TPG for $650 million and RCN for $1.6billion, respectively.

TPG owned the Internet providers, but they were still part of a larger unit. TPG expanded the unit by purchasing Houston-based enTouch Systems, which was purchased for an undisclosed amount on September 18, 2020. Stone peak Infrastructure Partners, less than two months later, announced that it had purchased the unit, then called Astound, from TPG for $3.6Billion along with $4.5B in debt via a leveraged buyout. TPG had considered selling Astound because of the increasing demand for Internet bandwidth during COVID-19. Astound continued its expansion with the purchase of San Luis Obispo’s Digital West on January 26, 2021, for an undisclosed amount.
