Cancelling an Uber Trip

The app allows you to cancel trips before or after being matched with drivers.

Drivers and riders can cancel trips for any reason that is consistent with our Community Guidelines. Uber policies, including the Community Guidelines, may not be followed and drivers could lose their license or be charged a cancellation fee.

How to cancel before being matched with a driver

  1. Tap the button at the bottom that says “Find your ride”
  2. Click “Cancel”
  3. Tap “No” if you want to continue your ride or “Yes Cancel” if you wish to cancel.

How to cancel your driver match

  1. Tap the bar at bottom of screen to see your driver’s information.
  2. Click “Cancel Trip”
  3. Tap “No” if you want to continue the ride. Or “Yes, cancel”, if you wish to cancel the ride and pay the fee.

How to cancel or change your scheduled ride

  1. Tap the profile icon at the top right corner.
  2. Tap “Trips.”
  3. Tap the button at the top right to select “Upcoming” in the dropdown menu.
  4. Choose the trip that you wish to cancel or change.
  5. To modify your ride or cancel, tap “Edit Time”.

If you cancel after being matched with a driver, a cancellation fee could apply.

Please note that Cancellation Fees vary depending on where you live and how busy they are. Your cancellation fees may be affected by how far the driver has driven to your pickup location, how long the driver took to get there, and how long your driver waited. These fees are paid to drivers for their time and effort in getting to your location.

Let us know if you feel you were charged an incorrect cancellation fee. This could happen if the driver cancelled the trip rather than ending it or if they were too far from your pickup location.

How to get a refund from Uber

Uber riders can request a reimbursement using their mobile app or the website. You cannot guarantee that you will get the refund. Uber can only be contacted. You must describe your circumstances and wait for them to review it and notify you of their decision. Uber will determine whether or not to accept your request based on the circumstances.

You should also mention that you must request a refund as soon as possible after an incident. You might lose the opportunity to ask for a refund if you delay. It is important to check receipts for each ride to ensure that everything is correct.

Follow these steps if you are using the mobile app for a refund request:

  1. Open the Uber app. If you don’t have an account, log in.
  2. To access the menu, tap the three lines in the upper-left corner.
  3. Tap “Your trips”. Make sure “Past” is selected at the top.
  4. Click on the trip to which you would like to request a refund.
  5. Tap “I would love a refund.”
  6. Select from a variety of possible issues like “My driver was rude,” or “Dispute my cancellation fees,” or “I have an additional charge from this trip.” Tap “I had an additional charge from this trip” if you don’t find the issue you are looking for.
  7. Check out the policy regarding refunds for the issue you are interested in.
  8. Complete the form. You may need to give more information depending on the issue. Be concise and thorough.
  9. After you are done, click “Submit.”

These instructions will help you request a refund via the website.

  1. Go to Uber’s website with your browser.
  2. Click “Sign In” to the right, and then enter your email address.
  3. Click the tab “For riders” on the left.
  4. To select the date you wish to ride, press the drop-down button.
  5. On the right, press “I would like to be reimbursed”.
  6. Select the option that best suits your needs.
  7. If asked, provide more information about the issue. Please be polite and provide as much information as you can.
  8. Once you’re done, tap “Submit.”

Uber will review your request and get back with you using the email address that you have provided. The average response time is between 24 hours to a week.

Uber Eats Refund

You can also request a refund if you ordered food from Uber Eats and it turns out that something is wrong. It’s possible to do this via the website or mobile app.

Follow these steps if you want to cancel an order at a restaurant and use the mobile app.

  1. Log in to Uber Eats by opening the app.
  2. Click “Orders” at bottom.
  3. Tap “Next.”
  4. Click on the order that you wish to cancel.
  5. Click “Cancel order.”
  6. Provide more details regarding why you’re canceling. Click “Done”.

Uber allows you to cancel an order that is already in progress using the app.

  1. Open the Uber app.
  2. Tap “Order food.”
  3. Tap the profile picture in the upper-right corner.
  4. Tap “Orders.”
  5. Click on the order that you wish to cancel, and then press “Cancel order.”

Cancelling an order is possible, but only if the restaurant has not received it. If you want to get a refund, you must act quickly.

 Uber Pass Refunds

Uber Pass is a great way to save money on Uber Eats and rides. Here’s how you could request a refund if you accidentally subscribed to Uber or Uber charged your credit card even though you unsubscribed.

  1. Open the Uber app on both your smartphone and tablet.
  2. Click “Account”.
  3. Tap “Help”
  4. Tap “Uber Pass.”
  5. Click “How can I cancel my subscription?”
  6. Tap “Chat with Us”
  7. Send details to customer support chat.

Uber says that you must notify them within 60 days of any unauthorized charges.

If you cancel your subscription and still receive a charge, make sure you did so at least 48 hours prior to the charge appearing. You won’t likely be eligible for a refund if that is not the case.
